Penguin Island

Yesterday was a public holiday in Australia (being ANZAC day). Hence, we thought we’d bring Naomi to visit the Penguin Island in Rockingham. Mr S and I have never been there ourselves so it was a new adventure for all of us, hehe.

The weather couldn’t have been more perfect! The sun was shining brightly but there was a cooling sea breeze throughout our stay on the island. It was actually a little chilly but we were all dressed accordingly, haha! *Pats self for doing some research before visiting the island*

To get to the island, you only need to hop on the ferry for a 5-minutes ride. It’s actually really close to the mainland and some people opt to travel to the island via the sandbar when the seas aren’t too rough and when the tide is low. However, having to bring a toddler with us and me being so heavily pregnant, we of course, opted for the ferry ride, hahahaha!! Duh~

Our little munchkin was pretty excited to be on the ferry. She imitated us when we pointed to the ocean and said “sea”. Too adorable for words!

Upon reaching the island, we headed straight to the Discovery Centre for penguins feeding time. It was the only time we actually saw penguins on the island, hahahaha! Not because there aren’t actually any penguins on the island but because they’re nocturnal animals and they’re usually out hunting in the sea during the day or hiding deep in their burrows on land. We didn’t manage to spot any except for the ones in the Discovery Centre. We’d actually be considered really lucky if we did! We might have a better luck if we chose to stay till late in the evening instead but we didn’t.

The scenery was breathtaking!!! We would’ve stayed to play on the beach if it wasn’t that chilly. Plus Naomi actually had a spotty tongue from daycare (suspected hand, foot & mouth disease) so we didn’t want her to overtire herself.

It still appears that she enjoyed herself very much though!

My baby girl and I ❤

You’ll always be my baby…

At 5.5 Months

Hi guys!! Naomi’s fast asleep next to me at the moment. So, YAY!! Let’s do a quick post, shall we?

Our baby girl turned 5 months old two weeks ago. 😚

Time really flies when you’re having fun (or when you’re a full-time mom 😂).

She’s getting more and more interactive and playful these days. And I really, really enjoy looking after her each day! 🙂

I’m kinda amazed that we both survived the first few dreadful weeks unharmed, lol! Look at where we are today!! 😝 She’s turning so sweet these days — gently touching my face while smiling and looking into my eyes. 😍

Taken today while she was taking her noontime nap. Believe it or not but this is an iPhone pic! iPhone cameras are the BEST!

She’s gonna start on solids in two weeks’ time and I’m quite excited about that! ‘Coz right now, she’s still waking up quite often at night for feeds. I don’t know if introducing solids would keep her fuller at night and hence waking up less for feeds? I’ve been patiently waiting for the night when she will sleep through the night to come, but I haven’t been lucky so far. 😂

Meanwhile, I’m losing hair like crazy these days. 😭 It’s quite scary to see the amount of hair I “pull out” whenever I shampoo my hair.

My wrists are still hurting like hell, which really sucks. ‘Cos I have to hold her every day, do chores, cook, wash. Even shampooing my hair can hurt like a @#$*)@%*)! And I think being constantly on my phone whenever my hands are free are not helping at all. ☹️

Thank God Mr S has been very supportive and helpful thus far. I am very, very thankful! 😙

Anyway, it will be a stormy weather in Perth tomorrow. Stay safe and rugged up, guys!

Goodnight! 💜 (Goodnight because Naomi woke up while I was halfway typing this post up and had to continue later at night after my shower, heh.)

Naomi: One Month Old!

We made it!!! Naomi is officially one month old today, hehehehehe… I’m lucky enough to be able to update my blog this morning as she’s taking her morning nap.

Yes, it’s been a month already since we’ve had our little girl. Time really flies!! Oh, by the way, HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS!!! How did you guys spend your New Year’s Eve? I spent mine snoring in bed by 9pm lol!

I’m actually looking pretty sane this morning. Had some good shuteye last night in between the feedings. I’m hoping that it’ll only get better from here 🙂 I must admit, the first two to three weeks have been tough on us. But, it would’ve been even tougher if I hadn’t had help from my mum and sister. I think I’ve had it easy compared to new mums who’ve had no helpers at all!

Now that it’s been a month, I’m officially no longer in my “confinement” period, hehehe. I have a confession to make! I’ve actually been really naughty and sneaked out of the house a couple of times during confinement. About 4-5 times WITH Naomi and a couple of other times either by myself or with Mr S or my mum, lol!!! I’ve been “chastised” for quite a few things I’ve been doing or not doing thus far, such as:

  • not swaddling the baby, or not swaddling them the right way (leaving Naomi’s arms out). I know swaddling is supposed to help calm, soothe and settle a baby but Naomi just downright refuses for her arms to be swaddled! She would cry and cry while struggling to have her arms freed! I then did some research on this on the net and it says that some babies really dislikes having their arms swaddled. I know I can’t believe everything I read on the net but hey, freeing her arms in our case works! And I would definitely do or go with something that works for my baby!
  • not layering her with enough clothes. “But it’s 38 degrees Celsius today! And look, she’s sweating all over!” I would protest. It seems that babies need to be wrapped up in layers of clothing everyday, just because. -_- Well, I’m sorry but Naomi will be wearing only her singlet and nappy today because it’s scorching hot outside!
  • not putting pillows or soft items around the baby to make her feel safe while she sleeps. It’s to reduce the risk of SIDS okay!! I’d rather be safe than sorry!
  • not letting her sleep on her tummy. Also to reduce the risk of SIDS. But I must admit, letting Naomi sleep on her tummy helps lessen the effects of her startle reflex. I try not to let her sleep on her tummy at night when both Mr S and I are knocked out (unless she wakes up and cries for a feed). But I do let her sleep on her tummy from time to time in the morning when we are up to monitor/supervise her. Having said that, I wouldn’t recommend any parent to let their babies sleep on their tummies. Just in case!
  • not giving her formula before my milk came in. I did in the end, one night in the hospital as we were desperate and she was really, really distressed and tired by then from the constant crying and hunger, and another time when we got home. I was trying hard to follow everything by the books when it came to breastfeeding. If the pamphlets in the hospital says no formula then NO FORMULA it is! But when you watch your baby cry and cry so helplessly, you just wanna help take the pain away as soon as you can. Thank goodness we’ve become established with breastfeeding now.
  • not giving her the dummy. Again, another thing I was going by the books with. But eventually, I gave in and bought dummies for her. We have four different types of them at home now (we have 8 in total as some come in a pack of 3) and she takes none of them. All she wants is her momma’s good ol’ titty. LOL!

The thing is, everyone will have their own fair bit of “two cents” to give when you have a baby. And they could all be contradicting each other. But only you know what’s best for your baby. I’m not saying don’t take any of the advices given as I’m sure there are constructive advices from people around you – from your mum, medical professionals and whatnot. But take what sounds right for you, go with your own mother’s instincts! After all, it’s your baby and you know what’s best for them!

Anyway, this post has turned out so much longer than I expected! (It’s a good thing, hey?) so I’m gonna end it now with some photos I managed to snap for the past few weeks. Enjoy!

Here’s one I took last Saturday when Naomi was 4 weeks old. Figured I’d snap one with her milestone card earlier ‘cos she was looking so cute that day, haha!

Not to mention, a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who sent their well wishes and gifts and cards from near and afar!! Can’t thank you all enough!!! ❤ ❤ ❤

Last but not least, Happy 1 month old, Naomi!!! You are so loved!

Meeting Lil’ K!

Mr S and I spent a long weekend in Melbourne last month to finally meet our nephew, Kayden!

Our flight to Melbourne was very comfortable with Virgin Australia. Managed to watch two movies on the plane and before we knew it, we’ve reached our destination! Hehehe… We were quite lucky to have an empty seat next to us so we still had some ‘personal space’ to us, haha. Mind you, I was already 29 weeks pregnant then. So, bump was kinda protruding already by then, lol. Any extra space that we can have to ourselves is a bonus!

We spent four lovely days in Melbourne with my brother in law’s family. Had a really, really, really good time with them, especially with the little one! He’s really a bundle of joy! ❤ It’s a shame he was teething during the weekend we were there though so he wasn’t in his best mood the whole time. Poor baby had fever and wasn’t eating so well. Nevertheless, he was his cheeky little self whenever he felt better! Can’t get enough of his smiles and laughters, hehehe…

As for myself, I was spoilt rotten by them!!! I don’t think I’ve been cared for or spoilt this much in my adult life haha! Felt so, so loved! 🙂

Mr S & Kayden

I must say that Mr S is well loved by the nephew. He surely knew how to crack the little one up with his silly actions and stuff, hahaha! And it’s the first time I’ve seen him carry a toddler that much before! Mr S had always been quite afraid to handle kids, hahaha!

With Kayden

Here’s one of the two of us with lil’ K! Oh, how we miss you little one!

P.S.: Can’t wait to meet the little one of our own! ❤ ❤ Less than 8 weeks more to go!!! ^^’

Back from Babymoon!

Bali 2

Photos from our babymoon in Ubud, Bali are up on my photography website!

We had a relaxing and calming four days off work,  couldn’t ask for anything better! Ubud is so very beautiful and charming. We both fell in love with it shortly after arriving. Perhaps because the locals were just so warm and friendly and we received such wonderful service by Kamandalu Ubud, not forgetting the spectacular views of paddy fields and the tasty food!!!

We had a few must-try food on our list and it was almost like our mission of the trip was to hunt all of them down hahaha! Unfortunately, we didn’t get to try the BBQ ribs from Naughty Nuri’s but oh well, there’s always next time! 😉

Did I mention how lucky we were to have escaped the flight disruptions from the volcanic ash from Mount Raung? We were this close to having to cancel our trip last minute as flights were only resumed the day before we were due to fly! Thank God everything went well and we had a splendid time there just relaxing, eating and enjoying tranquil moments by ourselves, hehehe…

We love, love, love going through all the photos and reminiscing all the fond memories of the day itself. ❤ Hope you all enjoy looking through them as much as we do 🙂

June/Winter Update

Hello peeps! Yours truly have some free time on my hands tonight so why not write a blog post?

So, it’s June already! Winter is officially here. The weather’s been chillingly cold in Perth for the past few days, especially in the morning at 2-3 degree Celsius! Which makes getting out of bed soooo much harder 😦 I also dread stepping out of the hot shower each day. But thanks to my trusty toilet seat cover, my precious butt doesn’t have to suffer in the winter, hahahaha! 😆

Everyone close to me knows and acknowledges the fact that I have a huge appetite when it comes to food. The fact that the weather is so cold these days doesn’t help my situation at all. I’m constantly thinking about food, food, food all the time. Hence, I made THIS!

Kolomee

Sarawak kolomee yo!!!

*Clears throat* I’m proud to say that it was a tremendous success this time, muahahahahaha! 😀 My first attempt was kinda bleh ‘cos it turned out too dry and lacked taste. This time around, it turned out near perfect!! The noodles were homemade by a church-friend of my aunt’s friend (were you repeating that? Lol!). It was cooked with pork lard, which I made myself (not from my own fats okay, from pork fats alright hahahaha!!) and that really completed the whole dish! Would’ve scored a perfect ten if I had some barbecued pork to go with the minced meat, hahaha!

Sigh, I just get so happy when I talk about food 😛

Moving on to the next topic, Mr S and I took our pre-wedding photos last, last Sunday!!! 😎 I did my hair & make-up trial on the same day so I can be “dolled up” for the shoot that afternoon. I can’t really say that I was entirely pleased with how I looked after the “mini makeover” as it was too heavy for my liking (I actually went home and blotted the red lipstick off as much as I could and applied a layer of nude gloss on myself). But I’m pretty sure my make-up artist can do much better! I just need to tell her what I want on the wedding day itself. I only have myself to blame because when she asked me what I liked I just said, “Anything! Anything to go with the dress I’m gonna wear later *shows dress*. What do you think? Just do whatever you think is nice.” 😐 I think I should know better which look I’d prefer rather than letting her guess, lol! Anyway, fingers crossed I won’t go crazy on the wedding day itself because I end up looking super horrible LOLLL!!!

So, our photographer showed me a few photos of the lot that she took that day AND I LOOKED SOOOO ROUND AND OLD!!! Or should I rephrase, SOOOO ROUND AND MATURE!!! T_T I definitely need to photoshop ALL the photos of my round faces or else they’ll never be photo-album-worthy LOL!!! Don’t get me wrong, the photos look beautiful in general! Our photographer is so much fun to be around with and she’s been amaaaazing thus far! I just can’t stand looking at myself in photos, that’s all lol! It’s true when they say that you put on a few pounds in photos when you have foundation on! -_-”’ (I blame the foundation for making my face so round and losing all contours! LOL!) Oh, not to mention I had a really old-looking hairstyle for the photoshoot that day too 😦 The makeup artist curled my hair for me but I think they made me look five years older, if not ten.

ARGGHHH, I’m such a whiner. In fact, these are all excuses lol! The truth is, it’s just the way I really look right now. I’m no longer 21 but I still expect myself to look like how I looked when I was 21 -_-
