Happy Year of the Dog 2018!

Happy Lunar New Year to all who’s celebrating!!! 🏮

This year, I’m celebrating the new year with a new member in the family – my gorgeous baby boy, Dylan!!

With the kiddos

My heart is so full ❤️

CNY Portrait Day 1

Our family portrait on the second day of Chinese New Year. It actually felt more like the first day of CNY ‘cos it was a Saturday and Mr S didn’t have to work so we could dress up and go visiting, hehehehe…

Day 1 of CNY

Love, love, love this qipao my aunt bought her from Hong Kong. She wore it for CNY as well last year but it fits her much better this year.

Naomi at the dentist

She went to a dental appointment with me in the morning and my dentist was so nice to do a quick general check up for her on the spot right after I was done! My brave little girl wasn’t scared of the dentist at all. Hooray for nailing her first dental check up!

CNY Portrait Day 2

Second day of CNY visiting! Also had a couple of friends over for CNY tidbits and cakes. So glad that the late night bakings are finally over! 💆🏻‍♀️

Naomi with lions

Brought the kids to watch a lion dance performance at St Thomas More this morning. It was Naomi’s second but I doubt she remembered the first at all ‘cos she was only 2 months old then and was fast asleep in the pram hahahahaha! She really enjoyed it this time. She even got to ‘feed’ the lion a red packet, hehehehe…

I’ve been trying to get her to speak Mandarin, teaching her simpler words such as animal names but I don’t think she has any clue at all, lol! Her pronunciation’s really funny and she really sounds like an angmoh trying to speak Mandarin!

Update on my Invisalign progress!!

CNY selfie

This is me after five sets of aligners!! (Note: Filtered photo. Sadly, I look nothing like this in real life HAHA!)

6 wks into Invisalign

Real, unfiltered photos (Day 1 vs. Week 6). I can really see the difference when I place the photos side by side!! Can you? I also think I lost a bit of weight. Maybe it’s just the flash though. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dylan’s Sleeping Routine…

Praise and thank you Lord! Dylan’s sleeping pattern is much, MUCH better now! I was just reading my last post just then and realized how depressed I was just a month ago over his bedtime crankiness and unsettled behavior.

I was just trying my luck every night. Trying different things and routines to see if it would help him settle himself to sleep better and I guess I finally hit the jackpot and we’ve finally found out what works for us! He’s still not sleeping through the night but I’m just so, so glad that there are no more crazy tantrums before bedtime and that he can now sleep for 3-4 hours straight as compared to the past 1 hour intervals. 🙂

Newfound Freedom!!

Because of this, I now have my newfound freedom every night after he goes to bed. After bathing and cleaning the dirty dishes and tidying up the kitchen and play area, I get at least an hour or two ALL TO MYSELF!!!

I’ve been keeping myself busy with Sims 4, even finishing Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan (GASPS!). I’m currently the last on the reservation queue for China Rich Girlfriend.

By the way, is it just me or does time passes super quickly when you’re spending time by yourself?! It’s bizarre!!!

Miri Trip 2017

Hiiii!! I’m updating my blog, yay! 🤓

We’re back from our short trip back to Miri and our lives are back to routine once again here in Perth.

We had a really splendid time back home! My bro’s wedding was amazinggggg… 🤩 Loved spending time with my family and meeting up with some friends! And the foooooooddddd. That itself is self-explanatory, hahahaha!!

I took heaps of photos during our trip. Mostly of the food I ate, HAHA! 🤤 A couple of friends threatened to unfollow me on Instagram because of the food pics I posted in my stories every day. 😜

The kids had a terrific time too. Every day was filled with warm hugs and kisses and cuddles. 😍😘

Flying with two kids though, was EXHAUSTING. And we weren’t exactly doing long-haul flights. 😐 Our transit in Singapore was for 6 hours. We arranged this on purpose just so we could give the kids a break, feed them, change them then freshen them up for the next flight. But MAN! We were totally beat!!! We took the midnight flight to Singapore and couldn’t catch a wink at all on the plane ‘cos didi had to be taken out of the bassinet every time the seat belt sign was on and for taking off and landing. After moving him a couple of times and with him absolutely hating it, I resolved to just holding him to sleep in my arms. But I had to stay awake to make sure that he doesn’t slide off my arms and fall to the ground. 😓

The awesome thing though, was that Singapore Airlines staff and crew members were sooooooo good and accommodating. Our whole experience from queuing up at the airport for our check-in to our landing was impeccable! I don’t know if it’s because we were traveling with kids but they just made us feel so at ease traveling with kids 😌 (except when the kids themselves are not co-operating).

Okay, next is to spam you with some photos, hehehehehe… I’ve taken more than a hundred photos back home but I’ll just selectively post some here.

Our first night back in Miri. Dinner to celebrate mum’s belated birthday!

At my brother’s church wedding ceremony.

My sister, myself and my cousin, Charlotte. Posting this ‘cos all of us looked so pretty here HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 😂

Naomi with her uncle & aunties… 🍭 Enjoying her very first lollipop!

Oh, oh, oh!! And I scored a date with Mr S one afternoon!!! My sister is a true GEM for babysitting both my kids for a couple of hours hehehehehe… It has been soooo long since we last had a date I actually felt quite shy at first HAHAHAHA!!! 😳

Honestly, it’s so important to reconnect after you’ve had kids. We still managed to do movie nights when we only had Naomi as we have a few hours every night after putting her to sleep. But now that we have two kids, it’s so much harder to do so. I’m usually exhausted by 9pm and all I wanna do is climb into bed and either scroll through my phone (worst activity before bedtime by the way), read a book, or sleep.

I think Dylan’s bedtime routine is getting slightly better now though. It’s taking a shorter amount of time to settle him to sleep now so I’m finding myself some extra time to spare before bedtime. UNFORTUNATELY, Mr S got a new game from his friends for his birthday so he’s busy trying to finish the game now. Boohoo to no movie nights yet again. But hooray for spare time in updating my blog, I guess? 🤔

Also, I finally had the chance to chop off my crazy thick hair!!! Felt soooo good and light afterwards. Gotta love short hair as it saves me costs on shampoo and conditioner and time spent on drying my hair! I wanted this length ‘cos I really like it when it’s slightly wavy but that means I’ll need to be very diligent in curling them. So far, I’ve failed miserably hahahaha! Should’ve known better! But I think a simple bob looks nice too anyway. 😝

Had the opportunity to meet up with some high school friends (C Seng not pictured in here)!!! Really appreciate them making the effort to meet up. It’s been 15 years since we graduated (GASP!) and I’m very grateful that we’re still able to do this. 😊

Last but not least, we were very blessed to have a simple early birthday celebration for Naomi!!! We had Mr S’s family come over and join us for mum’s cooked dinner. Naomi the lucky girl was showered with love, wishes and presents from everyone! 😍

All in all, all of us enjoyed the trip very much! A trip to Miri is always something we look forward to. Hopefully, we’ll get to plan another trip soon!

My Little Angel

I have both kids at home with me today and it was actually a rather fun day. We went to the church’s playgroup mid-morning, as we always do every Thursday. Then, we dropped by my aunty’s place to visit my cousin and had microwave lunch together, haha! They both behaved really, really well so it was a no sweat, no drama morning 😌

The both of them napped almost as soon as we got home. Naomi napped for 3.5 hours!! Didi took a while longer to fall asleep and didn’t sleep for as long. But I myself also managed to lie down and shut my eyes for a bit so that was a big plus!

Come evening, Mr S finally got home from work. I decided to give him a break today and bathe Naomi myself instead. It’s been a while since I last bathed her anyway so I thought it’d be a nice thing to do.

As I was washing her, she noticed that my knuckle was a bit red. I wasn’t actually hurt or anything. It was just reddish for some reason. Then this conversation ensued:

Naomi: (Pointing at my knuckle) Oh no!! What happened to mama’s hand? It’s ouchie!

Me: Oh… it’s nothing.

Naomi: (Pauses. Then said) Be careful, mama…

Oh mannnn…… my heart!!! She is just so, so sweet at times. It makes all the crazy and tearful days worthwhile!!! 😍💓💕💞

Tackling Two

A blog update!! Man, can’t believe I have the time to do this now, hahaha! Well, I totally failed to do my obligatory posts for the past two months and I guess we all know why. 😏

So, what has changed since my last update back in June? Mom and sis flew back two weeks ago… 😔 I don’t know how it all happened so quickly this time. It’s crazy because Dylan turned three months old three days ago and I’m like WHATTT?! Seriously. He’ll be a teenager before I know it.

Meanwhile, there’s the challenge of taking care of both of my kids at home when Naomi’s not in child care. Aha! I dreaded that day to arrive before mom and sis flew back. I wasn’t certain if I could cope. But I knew that I had no choice but to cope. I had to do it. I’d learn how to do it. And master it I will.

Guess what? Turned out I didn’t freak out as much as I thought I would on my first day with them alone. Sure, there were some meltdowns from each of them and my heart raced while (1) trying to push a bobbling head to my breast and soothe a whining and crying toddler at the same time, snot all over her face (2) yelling at aforementioned toddler to stop climbing up the TV unit while carrying a sleeping baby, which resulted in the baby crying in shock ‘cos of my screaming (3) trying to cook with two crying kids at the same time and the ultimate (4) trying to make them nap at the same time.

I must admit, this crazy thingy called parenthood IS challenging; especially when a child is sick (don’t even go there!). But, I think it isn’t so bad after all. Most probably because I have such a good support system from Mr S, lol! 😙 Our tough days still end with some cuddles and shut eyes. Although not quality ones like the ones we had BEFORE we had kids 😏 And we still wake up in the morning with a brand new day ahead of us with smiles, giggles and hugs from the kids. So, I really thank God for this; the tough but fulfilling days that we have.

It’s true when they say:

The days are long but the years are short.

Welcome, Baby Dylan!

Hiii!! Sorry for the brief hiatus. I was busy giving birth and caring for a newborn baby, lol!!!

So yes, the baby is finally here!!! It’s a boy and Mr S and I named him Dylan Gabriel Wai-Zhun Soong. He weighed a decent 3.32kg when he was born, hahaha! No wonder I felt like my tummy was about to explode towards the end of my pregnancy. And those stretch marks…!! 😱 I only had very few when I had Naomi but when I was carrying Dylan, they just popped up every week in my last trimester. Oh well, they are my proud battle scars!

One thing you get a lot when people know you’re pregnant with your second one is that they’ll tell you it’ll be a lot easier with the second one. Some make it sound like the baby will slide out of you just like that!

So, I went into the birthing suite with the expectation that it’s gonna be so much easier this time. But goshhhh, was I wrong! I certainly dilated a lot faster but still, the baby wasn’t in a good position so we waited a good 12 hours since I went into the hospital before he finally came out and greeted me with his sepet eyes, lol!!! Also went through the whole epidural and suction ordeal ‘cos he didn’t turn and wasn’t coming down the birth canal as smoothly as expected.

Anyway, the important thing is that he’s out, lol! And he’s a healthy baby! That’s all that matters.

Dylan newborn

Welcome, little one!!!

Naomi meets Dylan

Naomi was quite pleased to meet didi for the very first time.

Dylan and I were stuck in the hospital for extra three days this time as the baby had jaundice and his bilirubin levels didn’t go down as quickly as expected so he had to undergo phototherapy. 😣 The wait to be discharged was horrible each day. We were let down again and again and poor bubba had to undergo the heel prick test each day! He also didn’t bleed easily so they had to really squeeze the blood out of him for the tests. It was so heartbreaking to watch 💔

Now that he’s finally home, I kinda wish he would sleep like he did on that very first night he was born, hahahaha!! This little fellow just doesn’t sleep well at night and it’s driving us nuts. Plus we have a demanding toddler in our hands as well now. You can imagine the chaos we get in the house, huh?

But still, this is the memory we will create as a family together. So, I still wouldn’t change a thing.

We love you, Dylan! Thank you for coming to us and being a part of our family. Praise be to God!

Only 1.5 More Months to Go?!

SERIOUSLY?! Where has the time gone?

But honestly, at this stage now, I kinda can’t wait to pop my second baby out now, lol! Things are really starting to get a little tougher these days. I tend to wake up at 4am for a pee and then have difficulty falling back to sleep for an hour or so almost every night. 😵

And I’m so sick of having to lie down on my left side to sleep now. Most of the time, I just go, “AHHHH, I don’t give a sh*t anymore. Imma just lie down on my right for five minutes!!!” Then end up falling asleep for wayyyy longer than that, hahahahaha! I’m sorry 小 bump no. 2!!! 😢

I just need to work for another four more weeks then I’m off again! Wheeeeee!!!!! Mum and sis will be here end of next month to visit and help out again! Can’t wait for them to be back!! The house is definitely merrier with them around, hehehehehehe… Plus I love it when Naomi spends time with popo and yiyi. It’s so heartwarming to see how much they love her 😍😘

🎵 Can’t wait to see you againnnnnnnn…… 🎶

Definitely wearing that romper way too much hahahaha!! It was gifted to me by my sister and they’re super duper comfy!

Note to self: About time I fix the misaligned photo in the photo frame! 😝

Another one with the cheeky girl!

She’s been learning soooo much these days — especially from daycare. And I’m so pleased for her that she’s finally settled down in daycare now. The carers praised her for adapting and doing so well!  I’m more relieved now as I know that she’s being cared for, her needs taken care of when I’m at work (earning more money 💵 to buy her formula 🍼, hahahahahahaha) and that she’s happy and thriving. 🙂

She’s finally learned how to walk after she started daycare. Perhaps she wanted to catch up with the other kids who are already walking hahahaha! And now she’s learning to talk!! Man, when she says ‘nose’, it’s with an Aussie accent!! 🙄

It’s such a bittersweet feeling to watch her grow and witness her every milestone and progress. As a parent, you’re happy that your child is growing to be healthy and happy. But at the same time, you feel like with their new gained confidence and independence, they’ll depend on you less and less. 😢

Last but not least, a selfie to end the post (as usual, HAHA!) *Snicker* So sorry to do this but this filter does make me look so much more refreshed than I really am in real life. In real life, I just look like a tired, old hag because I really AM tired almost ALL the time. 😴

Quick question for you guys!! I’m thinking of cutting my hair to a lob again some time before baby is due. The longer hair will keep me warm in winter though! BUT BUT BUT, with the confinement thingy going on, I won’t be able to wash my hair for quite a while so I can foresee that it’s gonna be quite gross!! 😱😰

What do you think? Lob or no lob? 🤔

Time for my March update!! I turned another year older last week, hehehe. And I’m blessed enough to have my whole family celebrate my birthday with me this year! 😍

Since I don’t get to spend my birthday with my family very often, I decided to treat everyone to something good this year — the new and luxurious Epicurean premium buffet in Crown Perth. 🤤

Ate all the stuff I’m not supposed to! 🙄

With my little naughty!!!

Family portrait taken at our front lawn that morning. Matching twinsies outfit with Naomi!!! Too old to be wearing a tutu dress now to be honest so I’ve now given it to my sister, hahahaha!

My bump is also getting soooo big nowadays I already look like I’m about to pop!! 😵

So, I’m Back to Work

Yes, back to the workforce I go, despite the fact that I’ll be delivering another baby in just a few more months, hahahaha!! 😜

I’ve been feeling slightly nervous in the days leading up to yesterday. Mainly because I don’t know how Naomi will cope at daycare. She still had problems settling herself to sleep during snooze times — she’ll only settle down and take her naps/sleep if I lie down next to her. 😣

So, I’ve been trying to get her to get used to sleeping without having me lie down next to her. (Imagine having me squeeze inside her cot with her at night with my baby bump! 🤰🏻 Man, oh, man it’s a torture for BOTH of us!) I slowly transitioned from lying down next to her, to sitting at one end of the cot and singing songs to her to calm her down, to lying on a mattress outside the cot while she’s inside and having me holding her hand.

I was quite surprised when the carers told me that she coped so well yesterday! Ate a good portion of her lunch, had her morning tea, and most of all, took her two naps while she was there! And she didn’t need someone to lie down next to her, lol. But one of the carers had to sit next to the cot while she settled herself down to sleep though, haha!

Last night, I didn’t even have to hold her hand for her to fall asleep, hahaha! I just lied down on the mattress next to her cot and she fell asleep on her own. FINALLY!!! I was always reluctant to try out the CIO (cry-it-out) sleep training method ‘cos she’s the kind of baby who wouldn’t stop crying until you give in. 😓

Taken just as I parked outside the childcare centre. She was clueless as to what was gonna happen next. 😢 She did, however, attend the orientation for 2.5 weeks prior though, but only for an hour or so. Yesterday was her first full day at daycare by herself.

My heart sank as I turned around and saw her looking back at me like that. 💔

Oh, and she’s sporting a fringe ‘cos I cut her hair for her earlier this week, hahahaha! Her front hair was getting so long that they kept irritating her eyes.

Mummy cut my fringe for me today. Do you like it? 💇🏻💁🏻💞💓

My first day back at work was… mundane. Lol! I have after all, been working there for almost a decade already. Everything was like a second nature to me hey. One thing I still hated though, was the traffic jam on my way to work. 😪🔫

I couldn’t have hoped for the time to pass faster while I was in the office, haha. When I finally pulled up at the driveway at home and got down to open the garage door, I saw Mr S place her tiny body on the couch by the window.

ARGHHHH!!!! God, how I missed her.

Naomi’s First Trip to Miri

Happy New Year everyone! 🎉 Isn’t it scary it’s almost the end of the first month of year 2017 already? Time sure flies by faster the older you get. At least that’s how I feel, haha!

So, we headed back to Miri for four weeks early December last year. Naomi and I flew back by ourselves first and Mr S joined us two weeks after. With it being the first time for Naomi to fly, I couldn’t help but feel quite nervous; not knowing how she’ll behave on the flight and how I’m going to cope with the two flights and the transit in KLIA.

Then came the actual day itself. ✈️ I had a less than satisfactory experience with the ground staff at Perth International Airport. In fact, I was sooooo disappointed at their total lack of consideration for a passenger traveling with an infant. 😡 I’m not going to elaborate on what happened ‘cos I’ve been telling this story to others so many times that I’m actually sick of it already, haha. 😪

Taken at about 1:30AM. She was very sleepy and didn’t make much noise. Phew!! But had to carry her just as she fell asleep ‘cos strollers are not allowed on the plane and had to be placed in the cargo. 😭

Ahhhhh, I can’t describe the sense of relief I had when she didn’t wake up as I placed her into the bassinet. 😌

This totally wasn’t the case on our way back to Perth though. Gosh, she was sooooo unsettled and I can’t even recall how many times I carried her to Mr S’s seat during that flight (we weren’t seated together unfortunately). I was about to go crazy on the plane. Just 👌🏻 THISSSSS close to snapping!

Had our breakfast/first meal in KLIA, Malaysia. Where else but Burger King? Hehehehehe…

On the flight back to Miri, she did a poo poo, hahahahahaha!! It was getting quite smelly but I didn’t change her ‘cos we were close to landing and I can imagine how hard it would be to change her in the teeny tiny toilet on the plane. So I left it at that HAHAHA! I’m horrible, I know. 😝 So when mum picked her up from the stroller at the airport, she actually stank. LOLLLL!!!! 🤢😷😂

Ahhhh, we had such a good time back in Miri for four weeks! Four good weeks of pampering from family members, great company from relatives & friends and last but not least, the deeeeelicious fooddddd!!

I actually got to meet quite a lot of relatives and old friends this trip around, which I’m very grateful for. It’s so good to see everyone again ☺️

More photos from our trip back home… Enjoy! (You can click on the individual photos for a better view 😜)

Happy 1st Birthday, Baby Girl!

Our baby girl just turned ONE today!!! 🎈🎈🎉🎁🎁🎁🎀 I know that every parent says this and I can’t help but feel the same way too – time is zooming past way too fast and we can’t believe she’s one already!!

Honestly, the first few months were tough and painfully slow. And some days ARE still tough these days. But time seemed to pass faster and faster just before she turned one. She was reaching all sorts of milestones in the last two months or so. And it just feels like she has grown up a LOT over the past two weeks. *Sniffs* My baby is all grown up now!

We threw her a birthday party yesterday to celebrate with family members and friends here in Perth. I didn’t really have time to plan anything ‘cos she’s been fighting her naps lately and it drove me nuts almost every day. I seriously think that my level of patience is depleting day by day. 😑 Mr S and I were crazy busy the day before the party as I had to cook the whole day and he had to help me take care of her. We didn’t even manage to clean the house until the morning of the party itself ‘cos we were dead tired the day before. There was dog hair EVERYWHERE and toys scattered all over the floor, junk accumulated from weeks/months ago in the house. Ahhhhh…… it was just chaotic!

BUT, we managed to pull through and we’re quite proud of ourselves, lol!! 😌 *Pats selves on the back*

Cakes, desserts and drinks table.

My mum said I could feed 40 people with that much spaghetti. There was another big bowl not included in the photo. 🙃

Group photo with our friends. Missing Ken!! Also realized that I forgot to take any group photos with family members who attended the party. 😢

Excited birthday girl! She’s so intrigued by the fire on the candle, haha!

Birthday cakes! I know, I’m a crazy mother. I got her TWO cakes! Please don’t judge me.

Giving her a taste of her birthday cake. Think she likes it, hehehe…

First family portrait and she wasn’t too pleased. She was cranky ‘cos she skipped her morning nap yet again. 😤🙄

Second one while cutting the cake! MUCH BETTER. I loveeeeee this shot, hehehehehehe… 😍😚

Happy birthday, baby girl! We love you soooo much, Naomi! Mummy and daddy wish you a very happy and blessed birthday. May you be blessed with good health and joy in life, and grow to be a kind-hearted girl who loves God very, very much! Remember always that mummy and daddy will love you ALWAYS, no matter what happens; and we’ll always, always have your back! 💞💝💖💘💓💗
